Most of us have pets at home, but we usually lack the medical pieces of equipment which we might need at the time of emergency for our greyhounds as pets. We get anxious when we find ourselves in any calamity if our pets get injured, or fall ill. We do not understand what to do to ease their pain before taking them to the vet. So, if you do not know what medical equipment is must-have at home for your pets, then don’t worry. Here is the list of the supplies which must be in your pet’s first aid kit at home.

1. Absorbent Sterile Gauze Pads

If your pet gets injured, you need to cover the wound with gauze pads as soon as possible. Make sure that they are sterilized to avoid any infection. They will help you in protecting the wound and will save your pet from heavy bleeding.

2. Adhesive Tape for Bandages

After covering the wound, you would need to secure the gauze pads. For that, you must have adhesive tape for bandaging the wound. Don’t cover the wound with ordinary band-aids, secure the wound with adhesive tape.

3. 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

If your pet has some poisonous infection or taken something poisonous, you need hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. But you need to be careful and you must contact the vet before inducing it.

4. Milk of Magnesia/ Activated Charcoal

To absorb the poison, you will need Milk of Magnesia/ Activated Charcoal. You must contact the veterinarian before using it.

5. Digital Thermometer

A thermometer is a must-have to check your pets if they are having a fever. Do not insert it in their mouth, take it rectally. Make sure that it is a specialized pet thermometer because normal thermometers cannot detect the high temperature of pets.

6. Antibiotic Ointment

You will need antibiotic ointments for your pets if they get injured. They are used as first aid to help prevent infection from minor wounds or burns.

7. Eye Dropper/ Oral Syringe

You will need an eye-dropper for flushing the wounds. In case of any oral treatment, an oral syringe will be more effective.

8. Ice Pack

Keep ice packs ready. If your pet has got any swelling or pain, you can use an ice pack immediately before taking them to the vet.

9. Tweezers

To take ticks off your pets, you must have tweezers at home.

10. Artificial Tear Gel/ Saline Eye Solution

If your pet has got any eye infection, you should have artificial tear gel or saline eye solution for them. But consult the veterinarian before using them.

We hope that the above list has given you an insight into what medical equipment you should have at home for your pets.
