Six reasons to get an emotional support rabbit

Before deciding on an emotional support animal, there are things you need to consider. Here are the top six reasons why rabbits make a great emotional support animal:

  1. They are inexpensive

Many animal shelters also offer rabbits. The Humane Society and search engines like Petfinder.com all include rabbits available for adoption. Because they are smaller than most dogs and cats, the fee for adopting a rabbit is usually much less – ideal if you’re on a budget.

Additionally, because they require less general care, rabbits don’t cost as much to take care of once you get them home as dogs or cats do. These adorable, furry animals don’t even need to be walked. So, they are super easy to have in any home environment.

2. They are quiet

Unlike other types of pets, rabbits don’t make any noise. They will not disturb your neighbors by barking. They will also not make much noise as they go about their daily business. Whether apartment, condo, or home, you and those around you will love the quiet nature of your emotional support rabbit.

3. They don’t require lots of space

Even large breed rabbits do not need much space. It really doesn’t matter what size of home you live in. You can fit in a rabbit.

The rabbit experts at Flemish Giant Rabbit state, “We do not recommend caging a rabbit. However, you will need to rabbit-proof your home. The fun-loving animals do like to chew on wires or cables. You will at least want a rabbit-proof zone in your home for the rabbit to stay when you are not around.”

4. They are easy to train

Yes, you can train a rabbit. Rabbits are more intelligent and easier to train than you might think. It is completely possible to train your rabbit to use a litter box. They respond best to positive reinforcement training.

5. They live a long life

In the wild rabbits only live one or two years. However, as an emotional support pet, a rabbit will likely live seven to ten years or more. How does that compare to other animals?

PupJunkies state that the average life expectancy is 10-12 years for dogs and 10-14 years for cats. That lifespan of a rabbit is therefore about as long as a dog or cat. Although rabbits are not as long-lived as some birds, you can still have a long-term relationship with your rabbit.

6. They are cute and full of personality

It’s worth mentioning again: rabbits are super cute. The variety of rabbit breeds, sizes, and colors means that you can find the exact bunny to suit your preferences. Most people cannot resist their cute little faces and floppy ears.

As an added bonus, rabbits have a lot of personality. Rabbit personalities are as varied as human personalities. They will keep you laughing with all of their antics. Rabbits are also not aggressive, which is essential in an emotional support animal.

If you want a fun-loving, adorable, and lovable emotional support animal, you should consider a rabbit. They may not be the most popular ESA choice, but they may just be the one for you.
